Crowning a rocky peninsula high above the Mediterranean, Alanya Castle is a vast 13th-century Seljuk fortress built under Sultan Alaeddin Keykubad I. Some 6.5 kilometres of mighty walls enclose the Ehmedek inner citadel, the Süleymaniye Mosque, a covered bedesten market, ancient cisterns and a small Byzantine church.
